General Description: 
The Urban Counties intern will provide administrative and communication support to the Program Administrator and other program managers. Duties will range from clerical tasks to special projects. Projects may be initiated by intern to meet individual interests. Intern must project a professional image both over the phone and in-person at all times. Internship may be pursued for academic credit. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
• Compiling contact information of potential clients and vendors 
• Managing and archiving company files and data 
• Answering and transferring phone calls 
• Developing a thorough knowledge of all company operations, programs and projects 
• Conducting research to develop opinions on legislative issues 
• Receiving and announcing visitors 
• Photocopying, faxing and mailing 
• Updating and organizing contact database 
• Preparing paperwork both routine and otherwise 
• Managing organization of office space and materials 



Qualifications: 
• High proficiency in MS Office operations 
• Ability to manage multiple on-going projects 
• Communicates effectively both orally and in writing 
• Possesses extreme attention to detail and time management 
• Reflects a level of professionalism and maturity in varying situations  
• Exhibits respect for colleagues and elected officials 
• Highly motivated to complete projects thoroughly. 
• Punctuality and consistency 

About Us: 
The Texas Conference of Urban Counties is made up of 38 member counties, representing approximately 80% of the population of Texas. The central focus of the Urban Counties is to improve the ability of county government to provide essential and necessary services at the lowest cost possible. To this end, the Urban Counties studies policies and programs of the State of Texas, advocates county issues, and provides training and education programs for county officials. The Urban Counties strives to make county government more effective, more efficient, and more accountable to the people of Texas.
