UT Entrepreneurship Week, March 4-7

UT Entrepreneurship Week, March 4th-7th, is geared towards educating and connecting students who want to start, or have already started, their own businesses. With that in mind, we have a Legal Workshop, Idea Generation Workshop, and a co-founder speed-dating event that will all serve potential student entrepreneurs. Appealing to a broader audience, our lineup also includes the Student Startup Expo on March 5th, which will feature some of the most successful startups created by current UT students, and Rudy Garza (venture capitalist and former Texas Exes Chairman) speaking on March 6th. Open Coffee
Monday, March 4 at 10:00 am
Hosted by the Longhorn Entrepreneurship Agency
Come share ideas and meet entrepreneurial minded students from UT-Austin while enjoying fresh Starbucks coffee. Student leaders from many entrepreneurial student organizations will be in attendance for most of the morning. You can come and go as you please so feel free to stop by or stay and chat the whole time.

D&W Student Startup Legal Workshop
Monday, March 4th at 6:00 pm
Longhorn entrepreneurs are a driven and innovative economic force.  You will surely create some of this generation’s great business success stories.  The goal of this workshop is to create a framework for understanding the legal tools that can protect  what  you build, and the legal pot-holes that can sidetrack your business success.   It is crucial that business owners take preemptive legal steps to protect their future and learn to recognize the signs that additional legal precautions may be required.   The workshop is designed to be informative, but also interactive and enjoyable.  The workshop will generally focus on the following:

  • Some legal basics: Contracts, Employment issues, Business Organization, etc.
  • The legal mindset: How to train yourself to spot legal problems before they derail your business.
  • Finding and choosing a lawyer: A few thoughts on the legal market in Austin and beyond, and some practical tips.
  • Interactive Q & A and conversation with the lawyers.


Student Startup Expo
Monday, March 4 at 7:00 pm
Hosted by Scientific Entrepreneurial Society
Get a first-hand look at the new student startups on-campus. This event gives the opportunity for the university community to ask questions and offer help to student entrepreneurs while also giving student entrepreneurs an opportunity to interact with potential mentors, customers and founderati.

Idea Generation Workshop
Tuesday, March 5 at 6:00 pm
Hosted by 3DayStartup
Many students say they don't start a company in college because they don't have an idea. That you? Come learn and practice some idea generation techniques with the 3DayStartup crowd. Students will also have an opportunity to learn about the 3DayStartup weekend  at UT-Austin this Spring. We will encourage students to be open with their thoughts and challenge the status quo of thinking at this workshop. Join in on the excitement!

Keynote Talk by Rudy Garza, Founder of G-51 Capital

Garza is the founder and general managing partner of G-51 Capital in Austin where he works with some of Central Texas’ premier technology startups. In 2011 he served as the Chairman of the Board of the Texas Exes Association and is a lifetime honorary trustee  of the Dell’s Childrens Medical Center in Austin. The startup seed was planted in Rudy’s career by UT technology commercialization pioneer George Kozmetsky during Rudy’s time as an MBA student at UT. Join us as Rudy talks about the importance about creating  entrepreneurial opportunities on-campus.
