City Council of Rollingwood, Texas

Summer 2009 Site Review

Student: Government Senior
Position: Intern

This summer I did an internship with my supervisor/mentor Mr. Bill Hamilton, as he was newly elected to the Rollingwood City Council. Most of my responsibilities where confined to research and note taking during Rollingwood City Council meetings, and to meet with Mr. Bill Hamilton to discuss up coming events and issues that he would have to face in the near future. The hours really varied from week to week but my part was mostly done in the afternoons, and sometimes the meetings could last until eleven o’clock at night or even midnight.

The research part was mainly done on my own. There was a loose guide of what Mr. Bill Hamilton wanted to know and not many deadlines, but I tried my best to full fill all his needs. He basically told me he wanted to find out more information about events or issues going on in the Rollingwood area, like for example once he was assigned the Park and Planning Commission, I had to immediately find out as much information as I could about the local parks and there details. Overall it was pretty boring I am not going to lie, attending the meetings were the best part, because you could see local government in action and you got to realize that it actually works. The City Council Meetings were mostly open to the public so it was very interesting to see all the different characters come out to voice there opinion to the Council.
