Lloyd Gosselink Attorneys at Law

Spring 2013 Site Review

Position: Litigation Intern
Student: Economics, Government Senior

I have spent an incredible summer as a litigation intern at Lloyd Gosselink Rochelle & Townsend, P.C. Lloyd Gosselink has been consistently been rated one of the best places to work in Texas and my experience there has shown that it’s a well-deserved title. This firm nurtures a positive, team-oriented environment, which makes all the difference when it is 4:47 p.m. and a “Response to the Motion for Preliminary Injunction” is due at 5:00 p.m. From the file clerks to the principal attorneys, and everyone in between (yes, interns too), everyone has a distinct role they provide and their work does not go unappreciated.

I primarily worked with an associate litigation attorney seven years out of law school. As a successful female with a similar personality as myself, she was an excellent mentor. We were able to create a schedule that functioned around my summer classes. She was supportive of me as a student; she asked how my classes were going and would work with my schedule if I needed extra time to study for an exam. I worked between 15-20 hours per week, depending largely on if there was an upcoming deadline that needed to be met.

Over the summer we had four major cases that we worked on and through those I got to see all of the life stages of a litigation case. In the beginning of the case I would help set up the files and do preliminary research as we gathered the facts. After that, there is often a long process of both parties sending motions, responses, and requests to the judge. I helped proofread and check citations in those documents. I got to sit in on client and attorney meetings to take notes and gain a deeper understanding of the strategies we were using. As trial approached, I would gather all of the exhibits and background information and arrange them in binders for my supervisor to use at trial. I was involved in every step of the process and when we won cases I worked heavily on, I felt the deep satisfaction of a job well done. I highly recommend this firm to anyone, it truly is one of the best places to work in Texas.
