NCH Corporation

Summer 2011 Site Review

Position: International Finance Intern
Student: Psychology Junior

My internship in international finance for NCH Corporation this summer has been an extremely rewarding experience. My projects this summer involved variable contribution analysis for the most profitable products in NCH’s Asian countries. My other projects involved benchmarking NCH’s water treatment division and performing an in-depth analysis to identify best practices from top performing countries and make recommendations to improve underperforming countries. My third project involved analyzing sales compensation programs for Asian Sales Groups. All of these projects helped me not only to get a better understanding of their water treatment division, but it helped me understand the role of a financial consultant/analyst. At the end of my project I had to present my findings to the international department.

While I worked 40 hours a week, my day to day tasks included pulling financial data from oracle and sending and retrieving templates to country managers, developing a power point presentation that told a story that would be valuable for both finance and human resources personnel. For data that seemed unusual, it was my responsibility to contact the finance personnel in the other country to verify the data. The difficulty with this was difference in time zones. Moreover, the fact that you are not in person with these finance individuals from other countries, makes it easy for them not to respond to you promptly. However, they are generally good about responding to important messages with some forewarning. The international department was very helpful in sharing their insight and providing guidance along the way.
