Sweet Leaf Tea

Spring 2009 Site Review

Student: Psychology Sophomore
Position: Marketing Intern

Sweet Leaf Tea is a relatively new company that is quickly on the rise. Due to this fact, the role of the interns is constantly changing along with the company. Sweet Leaf is a company with a strong emphasis on customer and employee satisfaction. The office is casual and laid back. Employees are allowed to bring their dogs into the office, and there is often soft music and chatter in the air. It has an atmosphere that is professional yet fun. The office is very open and friendly so you interact with everyone from the C.E.O. to the accountants on a daily basis.

On a typical day at work you can expect a couple things to remain consistent, but for the most part you have to be ready for anything they need you to do. Some of the consistent things you do are stocking the cooler in the office with tea. The cooler is for employees and anybody coming in the office and has every flavor of tea created by Sweet Leaf available at all times. That is where the consistency ends. From there you check in with Happy, the Senior Field Marketing Manager, and discuss the plan for the day. Plans for the day can include: blitzing (taking the truck and handing out free tea in crowded areas of Austin such as the drag), picking up orders from the warehouse, helping design/create new marketing items, research for the planning promotional trips to various cities, going and doing in-store demos, delivering tea to various events around Austin in the Sweet Leaf Sprinter Van which is painted to look like a giant bottle of tea, and on one particular occasion for me included riding a broken Sweet Leaf Vespa as a push scooter down south congress with the Van riding behind to stop traffic.

All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Sweet Leaf Tea. I learned a lot, made a lot of contacts around Austin, and enjoyed time spent with my co-workers.
