Teton Capital Group

Summer 2015 Site Review

Position: Research Analyst
Student: Economics Junior

My internship tasks mainly include (1) conducting bottom-up fundamental research on Asian equities by going through the annual reports, presentation materials, sell-side reports, as well as press release, (2) building up valuation models that include important operating metrics, valuation multiples, basic financial statements, and research notes, and (3) communicating with company management teams and industry experts multiple times a week through conference call and email.

Since Teton Capital does global investment, each person or team usually covers a country instead of an industry. Take my team as an example. My supervisors are more familiar with Korean companies. I’m doing China coverage and there’s another intern focusing on Japan equities. As a result, I had the opportunity to learn about various industries and companies during this internship.

Although we all concentrate on Asian equities, individual projects are usually assigned more frequently than team projects. In this way, you are free to initiate your own research and dig into the company you’re interested in after you’ve finished your assignments.
Since we usually have to call people in different time zones, we can adjust our working schedules accordingly. You don’t have to keep a fixed schedule here.
