Fall 2014 Site Review

Position: Social Media and Project Intern
Student: Rhetoric and Writing Senior

I interned with a local interior design company called Turnstyle. Located in the Arboretum area, Turnstyle is a homegrown company that within it’s main goal of designing and decorating homes, strives to make each project personalized by getting those who live in the home involved.

My internship consisted of a variety of components. To start, I was in charge of most of the social media endeavors. I had to update all outlets, which include Pinterest, Linked In, a blog, Instagram, Project Décor, Houzz, Facebook and a website. I was also expected to come up with interesting stories and/or products to blog or post about on these outlets. I did everything from researching events and items, to photographing places and interesting design relevant things, as well as writing text for all these posts. In addition to this, I helped project manage by searching for products for actual installations. I also edited spreadsheets for budgeting purposes, measured rooms for design conceptualization, and worked with clients to get things done and make them happy.

Something very important in this internship are workplace relationships. The team is very close knit, and Lieve, my boss, is serious about everyone being honest and open with one another. She wants no one to be afraid to ask for help. Every Monday, the team meets to set the goals for the week. We also periodically have lunch all together to also have a connection on a more personal level with one another.
