World Class Capital Group

Spring 2015 Site Review

Position: Marketing Intern
Student: Religious Studies Senior

This semester, I worked as a Marketing Intern for World Class Capital Group (WCCG). WCCG is a leading national real estate investment firm focused on acquiring, developing, and managing high quality real estate. Prior to this internship, I had little to no understanding of the commercial real estate industry or its market in Austin. I did, however, understand marketing tactics such as increasing SEO and web presence strategies by use of social media.

My internship required me to dive head first into my assignments, and through this I was able to quickly pick up on commercial real estate jargon and what WCCG’s marketing needs were. My roles at WCCG included establishing our presence on social media and maintaining our accounts, formatting a marketing plan for SEO, writing press releases, creating and designing letterheads for all company properties, and writing, creating the layout, and distributing the company’s monthly internal newsletter. The newsletter was my biggest responsibility as it consisted of pulling from news articles each month and taking from our completed press releases to highlight the company’s successes and announcements for that month.

The marketing team consisted of my supervisor, our Marketing Coordinator, a Graphic Designer, and two other interns. The interns and I collaborated on several of our projects, and I was named the “quarterback” of the interns by my supervisor which allowed me to delegate tasks assigned to the intern team. Our team had a “rock” meeting every morning, which was one of my favorite experiences of the internship. We would all share our “what’s up,” a quick recap of what is going on with us personally so the rest of the team will know if we are in a good place personally. We would then state if we finished our previous rock, the assigned task of most importance, what our new rock would be, and if we were stuck anywhere. Having this each morning was extremely encouraging and productive.
