LACS Student Registration

Liberal Arts Career Services' policies and guidelines have been created to protect you, the Liberal Arts student, as well as to facilitate your coaching needs and recruiting activities with our employers. To that end, we require all students registering with our office to acknowledge and agree with the following terms. Once you have read through this document, you will be ready to open your BTT Gateway account. In order to familiarize yourself with your responsibilities and rights, we recommend that you print a copy of this agreement for your records.

Eligibility

You can register with LACS and open a BTT Gateway account if you are one of the following:

  1. a currently enrolled UT Austin Liberal Arts degree-seeking student;
  2. a UT Austin undergraduate Liberal Arts alumni within one year of graduation;
  3. a currently enrolled Liberal Arts UTeach student; or
  4. an international exchange student currently enrolled at UT Austin in a Liberal Arts major.

How to Register

Step 1. Thoroughly read and understand the Student Registration Agreement below. The Registration Agreement details our policies and guidelines to which all students must adhere when participating in the career search and interviewing process.

Step 2. Create your BTT Gateway account here. Within 2 business days of your registration, your account will be activated and you will receive a Welcome to BTT Gateway email.

Step 3. Explore our orientation page here to learn how you can manage and use your BTT Gateway account.

Registration Agreement

Your Responsibilities

Student Status
  • I understand the eligibility criteria required to open a BTT Gateway account and I certify that I am one of the following: 1) a current UT Austin Liberal Arts degree-seeking student; 2) a UT Austin Liberal Arts undergraduate program alumni within one year of graduation; 3) a currently enrolled Liberal Arts UTeach student; or 4) an international exchange student currently enrolled at UT Austin in a Liberal Arts major.
  • I understand that it is my responsibility to read the BTT Gateway job and internship requirements and to apply only to the opportunities for which I am eligible based on the posted criteria.
  • I understand that if I do not meet the eligibility requirements and open an account or if I apply for a job or internship for which I am not eligible, I will be in violation of College and University policy.
Consent to Release Records
  • If I select the option to allow employers to view my information, I grant Liberal Arts Career Services (LACS) at The University of Texas at Austin permission to release the resume, cover letter, and other materials I submit through the online registration process to prospective employers in printed and/or electronic format, or via the Internet.
  • I certify that the information I supply to LACS on my resume and in my BTT Gateway profile is correct. I understand that supplying false information is a violation of student standards of conduct. If false information is discovered, I will be blocked from using LACS services for a length of time determined by the LACS Director. I understand that corrections of the false information will be sent to all companies to whom the false information was supplied.
  • I understand that I may select the "unspecified" option when completing my demographic data on gender, ethnicity and disability status in the online registration process. I understand that selecting "unspecified" in these fields will not affect my registration with Liberal Arts Career Services.

Your Coaching Responsibilities

Career Coaching: No-Show, Cancellation & Reschedule Policy

I understand that I must call LACS to reschedule or cancel my coaching appointment by the end of my scheduled appointment time. I can cancel or reschedule by calling LACS at 512-471-7900. If I do not call LACS to reschedule or cancel by the end of my scheduled appointment time, I will be considered a no-show. If I no-show, I will comply with the following policies:

  • First no-show: I will have no access to the LACS coaching program for 7 days.
  • Second no-show: I will have no access to the LACS coaching program for a minimum of 7 days and I must submit a letter of explanation for the no-show to the coach. If I do not provide a letter of explanation within 7 days, I understand that I will not have access to the coaching program until I submit my letter. This letter of explanation will include my plan to ensure that I will be better prepared for future professional appointments. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter, I understand that I will regain access to the coaching program.
  • Third no-show: I will have no access to the LACS coaching program until the first day of the semester following the semester in which I no-showed for a third time.
Mock Interviews: No-Show & Cancellation Policy

I understand that I will be considered a no-show if I schedule a mock interview and do not cancel at least 2 business days prior to my mock interview or if I do not show within 15 minutes of the start time of the interview. I can cancel by calling LACS at 512-471-7900. If I no-show, I will comply with the following policies:

  • First no-show: I understand that I must provide a letter of apology addressed to the coach and my BTT Gateway account will be locked for a minimum of 7 days. If I do not provide a letter of apology within 7 days, I understand that my account will remain locked until I submit my apology letter. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future scheduled appointments if my plans change and I can no longer attend. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter, I understand that my account will be unlocked.
  • Second no-show: I understand that I must provide a letter of apology addressed to the coach and my BTT Gateway account will be locked for a minimum of 7 days. If I do not provide a letter of apology within 7 days, I understand that my account will remain locked until I submit my apology letter. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future scheduled appointments if my plans change and I can no longer attend. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter, I understand that my account will be unlocked.
  • Third no-show: I will have no access to the LACS coaching program until the first day of the semester following the semester in which I no-showed for a third time.
LACS RSVP Events/Workshops: No-Show & Cancellation Policy

I understand that I will be considered a no-show if I RSVP for an event and no-show without cancelling my RSVP before the end of the event. I can cancel my RSVP by calling LACS at 512-471-7900. If I no-show, I will comply with the following policies:

  • First no-show: I understand that my BTT Gateway account will be locked until I provide a letter of apology addressed to the presenter. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future RSVPs if my plans change and I can no longer attend. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter of apology, I understand that my account will be unlocked.
  • Second no-show: I understand that I must provide a letter of apology addressed to the presenter and my BTT Gateway account will be locked for a minimum of 7 days. If I do not provide a letter of apology within 7 days, I understand that my account will remain locked until I submit my apology letter. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future RSVPs if my plans change and I can no longer attend. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter of apology, I understand that my account will be unlocked.
  • Third no-show: I understand that my BTT Gateway account will be locked and I will lose access to career services for the remainder of the semester in which I no-showed for the third time.

Your Job Search Responsibilities

Liberal Arts Career Services' policies and guidelines have been created to protect you, the Liberal Arts student, as well as to facilitate your recruiting activities with our employers. To that end, we require all students who participate in on-campus recruiting to acknowledge our student conduct policies. To help ensure your recruiting experience and to help strengthen the College’s standing as a pool of well prepared top talent, Liberal Arts students must adhere to the following policies and guidelines.

My Qualifications

I will represent my background, skills, experiences and qualifications accurately and honestly in all formats, including my resume and LinkedIn account.

Accepting an Interview

I will only accept interviews for opportunities that interest me. I will not use interviews to learn more about the company or as interview practice (mock interviews are for practice). I understand the interview no-show policy and will abide by these policies when I must reschedule or cancel an interview that I have accepted.

Accepting an Offer

When I accept a job offer in good faith, I will fulfill my commitments regarding that job offer and not consider other offers of employment. If I accept an offer then back out (renege), I understand that this may result in a referral to The University of Texas at Austin Student Conduct and
Academic Integrity unit in the Office of the Dean of Students and that I will lose access to my BTT Gateway account: 

  • Internships: for the remainder of the semester in question or for the subsequent long semester (i.e., for summer internships, accounts will be blocked through the end of the following fall semester).
  • Full-time jobs: for the remainder of my time at the University.
Evaluating Job Postings in BTT Gateway

I understand that job listings are presented as a service to registrants and I understand that: Liberal Arts Career Services (LACS) evaluates and moderates job postings based on LACS recruiting policies.  However, LACS cannot guarantee the validity and/or accuracy of the job information posted. It is the job seeker's responsibility to independently review all postings, organizations, contracts, and job offers. BTT Gateway registrants can research companies and opportunities via Vault, a comprehensive online career resource (access Vault via your BTT Gateway account under the External Links tab). Students and alumni can report job posting-related issues and scams to Liberal Arts Career Services, 512-471-7900. Learn more about employment scams at the Federal Trade Commission website.

On-Campus Interviews: No-Show & Cancellation Policy

I understand that I will be considered a no-show if I accept and schedule an interview, fail to attend and do not cancel my interview at least 2 business days prior to the interview by calling LACS at 512-471-7900. If I no-show, I will comply with the following policies:

  • First No-Show: I understand that my BTT Gateway account will be locked until I provide a letter of apology addressed to the interviewer. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future interviews if my plans change and I can no longer participate. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter of apology, I understand that my account will be unlocked.
  • Second No-Show: I understand that my BTT Gateway account will be locked for a minimum of 6 months and that I must provide a letter of apology addressed to the interviewer. If I fail to provide an apology letter, my BTT Gateway account will remain locked until my letter is received. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future interviews if my plans change and I can no longer participate. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu.
  • FOR ALUMNI: Please note that failing to attend an on-campus interview scheduled either through BTT Gateway or directly by an employer, will result in being blocked from further usage of LACS recruiting services, including BTT Gateway. There is no warning after a first no-show. Alumni will be blocked permanently.
Employer RSVP Events/Workshops: No-Show & Cancellation Policy

I understand that I will be considered a no-show if I RSVP for a recruiting event and no-show without cancelling my RSVP before the end of the event. If I no-show, I will comply with the following policies:

  • First no-show: I understand that my BTT Gateway account will be locked until I provide a letter of apology addressed to the presenter. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future RSVPs if my plans change and I can no longer attend. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter of apology, I understand that my account will be unlocked.
  • Second no-show: I understand that I must provide a letter of apology addressed to the presenter and my BTT Gateway account will be locked for a minimum of 7 days. If I do not provide a letter of apology within 7 days, I understand that my account will remain locked until I submit my apology letter. My apology letter will include my plan to ensure that I will cancel future RSVPs if my plans change and I can no longer attend. My letter can be delivered to LACS in FAC 18 or sent as an attachment to an email to lacs@austin.utexas.edu. Once I have provided LACS with a letter of apology, I understand that my account will be unlocked.
  • Third no-show: I understand that my BTT Gateway account will be locked and I will lose access to career services for the remainder of the semester in which I no-showed for the third time.

Agreement Note

Failure to comply with any of these terms will result in the cancellation of your registration with LACS or will constitute a policy violation for non-Liberal Arts students. Your Rights

Nondiscrimination Policy: It is the policy of The University of Texas at Austin to offer an educational and working environment that provides equal opportunity to all members of the University community. As a student using the Liberal Arts Career Services, please be advised of your rights under federal law, and of the method for filing a complaint with the appropriate agency. The office of the Dean of Students has primary responsibility for responding to questions about and receiving student complaints of discrimination of or by students. Students who believe they have been subjected to discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation should consult with the Assistant Dean of Students.
