Paradigm Talent Agency

Spring 2015 Site Review

Position: Music Intern
Student: Economics Senior

The office is a corner office on the 4th Floor of the Wells Fargo Building in downtown Austin. There is one agent in the office and his assistant who I worked with.

The internship consists of various activities and requires a certain level of social skill and music business understanding. It is best to head into this internship with an open mind and thick skin. Working in the entertainment industry requires intelligence and an ability to perform at a highly detail oriented level. This internship also requires a good amount of A&R. Focus on bands that are not currently signed to an agency. This can be determined by looking on their Facebook page for their current agent.

I worked 18 hours/week but the amount of time a student wants to spend there is relative to his or her own schedule. A person should prepare to be mentally challenged during this internship as it requires a lot of thinking and preparing. During the internship, I often would update excel documents with information regarding routing for a band’s tour to pass on to the management.

I also would enter in offers to our Cloud system that we would receive from promoters. These offers come in in the form of Flat Guarantees, Guarantee vs. % Gross, Guarantee vs. % Net, Promoter, plus deals, and custom deals. I would recommend researching these variations of deals before starting the internship.
