Population Research Center Marks 50th Anniversary

Mon, November 1, 2010

The University of Texas's Population Research Center, an interdisciplinary research and training unit that includes Latin American demography among its thematic areas of concentration, celebrates its 50th anniversary Nov. 4–5, 2010, with a series of events marking its outstanding legacy of scientific accomplishments.

The PRC exists to provide the resources to facilitate population-related research and training activities among its faculty and students. Its projects focus primarily on health disparities, religion and health, children and families, education and transitions to adulthood, and the demography of Latin America and the U.S. border. Several LLILAS-affiliated faculty are also PRC associates, including former LLILAS Director Bryan Roberts, Leticia Marteleto, Joseph Potter, Néstor Rodríguez, Chandler Stolp, Andrés Villareal, Peter Ward, and Robert Wilson, among others.

The theme of the 50th anniversary is Breaking New Ground in the Populations Sciences. Some of the PRC's alumni who have become leaders and innovators in the field will present at The Forums on Future Innovative Research in the Population Sciences on Friday, November 5.
