Dorothy and Rudy Martinez Family Scholarship in Mexican American and Latina/o Studies

The Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies (MALS) at The University of Texas at Austin, through the generosity of UT alumnus Mike Martinez, founding partner of Edge Resources in Ft. Worth, will award an annual scholarship in the name of Mr. Martinez’s parents, Dorothy and Rudy. This scholarship is the first established scholarship in the area of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. 

The Dorothy and Rudy Martinez Family Scholarship in Mexican American Studies (an award of $750) will be given to an outstanding student majoring in Mexican American and Latina/o Studies and will be presented at MALS’ annual graduation ceremony. Recipients are required to attend the ceremony and will have their names engraved on an award plaque that will hang in the MALS main office. 

Students interested in applying must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50 and be enrolled as a Mexican American and Latina/o Studies major for the coming academic year.  Applicants must submit a two-page essay that examines the growing Mexican American/Latino High School dropout rate and includes what the applicant thinks can be done about the problem. The deadline for applications is Friday, December 1, 2017.
