FLAS Fellowship Information Session

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships program provides allocations for the academic year and summer fellowships to assist meritorious undergraduate students and graduate students undergoing training in modern foreign languages and related area or international studies. Students awarded a FLAS Fellowship receive a monthly stipend and tuition coverage assistance to study one of CMES’ languages—Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish.

Students awarded an Academic Year FLAS can use the award for either domestic full-time language and area or international studies or overseas full-time language and area or international studies. The Summer FLAS allows for either a domestic or overseas organized, intensive language program.2019-2020 FLAS fellows have used their funds to study Persian in India, Hebrew in Tel-Aviv, Turkish in Istanbul, and Arabic in Austin. Other students use their awards to cover their yearly tuition and continue their degree and coursework in residence at UT Austin.
