Academic Advising, Registration, and Forms

Students must have each semester's coursework approved by the Graduate Advisor prior to registration. The Graduate Adviser offers students information on fulfilling degree requirements, making adequate progress towards the degree, preparing for the thesis/report/comps/dissertation, academic integrity, among other issues. An integral part of Orientation is meeting with the Graduate Advisor. All incoming students will schedule a one-on-one meeting with their Advisor. Schedule your appointment here.
Students are expected to complete all necessary Registration forms and Degree Checklists  before their appointment. You will need Adobe Reader or Apple Preview to access the forms. All forms must be emailed to Lisa Parisi as typed, digitally-signed PDFs before your advising appointment. Scans will not be accepted. Ph.D. forms can be found here. Master's forms can be found here

Leading up to registration each semester, students review their Registration Information Sheet (RIS) to see a synopsis of basic information related to registration, such as access periods. For now, the section at the bottom titled "Registration Bars" is most important, which shows information that might prevent registration. Bars, which come in various forms, block enrollment until a particular issue is addressed, such as unfulfilled admissions bars that are left over the application cycle, financial (tuition, library fines), and fees that might be associated with University Health Services.

After meeting sending your Registration forms to Lisa and meeting with the Graduate Advisor, you will be cleared for Registration. As you decide between classes, it is best to routinely view your degree requirements (Ph.D. / MA) and track your progress on your degree checklist (MA). Any changes made to your schedule after your advising appointment must once again be approved by the Graduate Advisor and all related forms must be updated, signed, and sent to Lisa for your student file.

The Graduate Coordinator

Lisa, the Graduate Coordinator, handles the administrative side of advising, registration, degree requirements, funding, and employment. Unlike the Graduate Advisor, who is a member of the faculty, she does not weigh in on academic matters or curriculum, this includes course selection.
**Incoming Ph.D. students are also expected to meet with Lisa to discuss and sign off on their Milestone's agreement prior to being permitted to register. Please schedule your appointment here
