Admissions: Financial Support

An additional application is not required to be considered for financial support. All applicants are automatically considered for University fellowships, internal scholarships, in-state tuition waivers, and department employment.

Prospective students are encouraged to apply for the FLAS to increase their odds of receiving funding.

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies offers FLAS Fellowships to fund highly competitive incoming and continuing graduate and undergraduate students for the study of regional foreign languages. Please visit our FLAS section for the application.

2019-2020 College of Liberal Arts Tuition Rates

Current tuition rates for a graduate degree from the College of Liberal Arts can be found at the above link. Please note that Dual Degrees have separate tuition rates.

Tuition Reduction benefits:

Students employed as teaching assistants (TAs), assistant instructors (AIs), and those who receive CDMES fellowships are eligible for a tax-exempt Tuition Reduction Benefit related to their student academic employment. The current TRB rate for 2019-2020 is $4,464.00. For TAs the majority of the remaining tuition balance is covered by the College, for students on fellowships, your package may come with an additional waiver.

The Funding Process

The Department Chair and Center Director annually appoint the members of the funding selection committee, which is composed of faculty members representing each of the areas of study. Applicants are evaluated for admission and funding through the merits of their application, their overall academic performance, language acquisition, and genuine potential for future academic achievement.
*Funding will vary year-by-year and is dependent upon annual instructional budgets and fellowship allocations.

We encourage prospective students to read our Graduate Admissions FAQ, as many general questions are answered on our website.
