Student Responsibility

Successful completion of the degree is the responsibility of the student. The Graduate Advisor and Graduate Coordinator are valuable resources for information on academic issues, administrative procedures, and university and departmental policy; students are, however, responsible for ensuring that they act within the rules and regulations of the department, college, and university; meet all deadlines; and fulfill the requirements of the degree program.

Students should familiarize themselves with the Graduate Catalog, the General Information Catalog (both found here), and the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) website, which hold information on policies, procedures, and requirements. Students should also make note of important dates on the academic calendar, including the first, twelfth, and last class days, registration access periods, final exam periods, and drop/withdrawal deadlines, among others.

The University considers email to be an official means of communication. Most correspondence from faculty, the graduate advisor and coordinator will be sent via email. Students must keep their email addresses updated, both with the University and CMES, to avoid missing crucial messages.
