During the last months of his University Graduate Continuing Fellowship, Babak Tabarraee has been working on his dissertation on Iranian cult cinema. Meanwhile, he celebrated the publication of the 26th volume of the Persian Encyclopedia of the Worlds of Islam, to which he has contributed 10 articles on the history and evolution of cinema in several Muslim-majority societies, including Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Libya, Nigeria, West African countries, and the Arab countries of Southwest Asia. 

 

Biography


 

Having a broad academic background in theater (BA), literature (MA) and film (MA), Ph.D. candidate, Babak Tabarraee’s,  research revolves around media reception in Iran, global cinemas, and comedy in the Middle East. His writings have appeared in Iranian Studies, The Soundtrack, Cinephile, Journal of Islamic and Muslim Studies, and the Iranian Encyclopedia of the World of Islam. His publications in Farsi include three authored books of fiction, twenty-two book-format translations, and several essays, short stories, and screenplays. He is currently working on his dissertation on the Iranian cult cinema.
