Biography


Lieutenant John R. Bolchoz, III, a native of Columbia, SC, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Weapons and Systems Engineering.

He reported to Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in Charleston, South Carolina to begin training for Submarine duty. LT Bolchoz graduated from NNPTC in May 2014. Following completion at NNPTC, LT Bolchoz attended Prototype training at NPTU Charleston. In January 2015, following completion at NPTU Charleston, LT Bolchoz transferred to Submarine Officer Basic Course (SOBC) in Groton, CT.

LT Bolchoz reported to USS North Dakota (SSN 784) in March 2015. During his tour, he served as the Main Propulsion Assistant, Reactor Controls Assistant, Quality Assurance Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer. He completed one Mediterranean deployment as well as Post-Shakedown Availability at Electric Boat shipyard. Following three years on the USS North Dakota, LT Bolchoz transferred to the PCU South Dakota (SSN 790) in February 2018. He completed the new construction process, sea trials, and commissioning in February 2019.

LT Bolchoz’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
