Awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy by the University of Crete, in Greece
Dr. Alexander P. D. Mourelatos,

Dr. Alexander P. D. Mourelatos, Emeritus Professor in Philosophy and in Classics, was awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy by the University of Crete, in Greece, at a special academic ceremony that was held on the Rethymno campus of that university on October 11.  He had been recognized in Greece for his internationally noted contributions to the study and the teaching of ancient Greek philosophy with a previous award of an honorary doctorate in philosophy by the University of Athens (1994), and by his appointment as corresponding member of the Academy of Athens (2000).  "I consider this upcoming honor especially satisfying," Dr. Mourelatos commented,  "as it reflects Greek students' appreciation of my teaching over the three periods in the past when I served as visiting professor at the University of Crete."
