Bio:
Mary grew up in Round Rock, Texas, and attended UT as an undergraduate History major. After receiving her MA in History from Arizona State University, Mary returned to Austin to work as an Academic Advisor at UT. In 2006 she became a Plan II staff member as an Academic Advisor, and moved into the Alumni Liaison role in 2016. In addition to a love of history, Mary is passionate about wildlife, wilderness, National Parks, and hiking in the mountains whenever her schedule allows.

Bio:
Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, Sarah grew up in McKinney, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin as a Dean’s Distinguished Graduate with majors in English and history. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Northwestern University, where she specialized in 19th-century British literature and wrote her doctoral dissertation on Victorian silence. Everything came full circle when her husband matched for medical residency at Dell Med and they headed back down to Austin, TX. She has a Great Dane puppy named Vader, and likes to spend her free time running, reading, laughing with friends, and enjoying Austin’s amazing food scene.

Bio: 
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Anne attended Rice University as an undergraduate, and earned her M.A. from the University of Chicago, and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. She specialized in French Literature and Medieval Studies and wrote her doctoral dissertation on women’s voices and social economies in the High Middle Ages. Anne taught French language and literature before working briefly in university fundraising and joined Plan II in January 2020. She spends her free time reading, hiking, and spending time with her husband, two children, and the family dog, cat, and turtle.

Bio:
Kerry grew up in Western NY and attended college in the south, receiving both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Clemson University. She has lived in Austin for the past 21 years, with a brief 2 year stint in Taipei, Taiwan. The majority of her time in Austin has been spent on the 40 acres working with students in the College of Liberal Arts. In her spare time Kerry enjoys traveling, learning about other cultures, cooking and hanging out with friends.

Bio:
Elsie was born in New Mexico and raised in west Texas. She finished high school in Austin and received a BBA in 1995 from the McCombs School of Business. She worked for 7 years in different realms of the import/export industry and came back to UT-Austin. She was at the College of Pharmacy and the office of University Events before joining the Plan II staff in July of 2011. Elsie is blessed with a loving family and amazing friends. She bleeds burnt orange and enjoys helping with academic events, such as Explore UT, Honors Day, & Commencement.  During her “free” time, Elsie enjoys reading for pleasure with the Ruthless Readers book club (est. 2003), watching movies, and watching her daughter kick butt on the volleyball court. Hook ‘Em!

Bio:
Originally from Corpus Christi, Peggy lived, studied, and worked in Arkansas, West Africa, Denton (TX), and Seattle before settling (we hope!) in Round Rock in November 2018. She has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Education and Doctor of Education in Higher Education, the latter from University of Washington. Since 2004, Peggy has worked in academic advising across various institutions (from community college to research universities) and with all types of student populations and programs (undergraduate and graduate, Art, Business, and Engineering along with vocational). After 11 years in Seattle, Peggy has very much enjoyed being back in her home state of Texas. She spends her free time enjoying the sun she missed, reading, watching trending binge-worthy shows, and hanging out with her husband, daughter, and two dogs.

Bio:
Matt Valentine hosts the Plan II Program’s visiting writers series in the Joynes Reading Room and teaches a junior seminar, Writing Narratives. Matt was born in Alaska and has lived all over the U.S., but his deepest roots are in Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas with majors in Plan II and English, he completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing at New York University, then worked as a journalist in Pennsylvania before returning to Austin. He continues to write and has published stories and essays in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The New Republic, Salon, and several literary journals. His reporting on gun violence for Politico Magazine and other media outlets culminated in a book, Campus Carry (Harvard Education Press, 2020), co-edited with Patricia Somers. Also a professional photographer, Matt has published portraits in The New York Times, Men’s Journal and Outside. He lives with his wife, Suzi (an analyst at Apple), and son, Robert.
