Plan II Writing Coaches

Plan II offers writing coaches to students of all levels to help them develop their writing skills.

Nominated by faculty for their outstanding writing, the coaches are Plan II students who will work with their peers to help them clarify their ideas, tighten the structure of their arguments, polish their prose, and generally support them in developing a clear writing voice and style.

For more information about the coaches, including scheduling and availability, check the Plan II Newsletter or email Anne McCreary.

Meet the coaches

Rin Chiang - Head Writing Coach

Rin Chiang is a third-year undergraduate Plan II and English double major in the College of Liberal Arts. In addition to studying books, comics, and graphic novels, they are interested in Asian and Asian American studies, sociology, and biology. Having switched into English in their second-year after taking World Lit, Rin has experienced not being interested in writing to really enjoying it. In their free time, they enjoy drawing, cooking, being outdoors, and spending time with their cat.

Oliva Conway

Hello! I am a third-year biochemistry and Plan II double major from College Station, Texas. Currently, I do molecular biology research at UT and I am also involved with the Freshman Research Initiative. Outside of class, I like to read and take walks around Austin. World lit is one of my favorite classes so far, and I love getting to talk to other students about their experiences.

Mia Cooper

Hi! My name is Mia Cooper, and I'm a senior Journalism and Plan II major, with a minor in Global Communications. On campus, I'm the President of Texas Lassos this year, and you can usually find me completing service opportunities and mentoring our new members. Off campus, I'm deeply involved with the non-profit Amigos de las Americas and am super passionate about youth leadership and activism! This is my second semester as a writing coach, and I especially love helping students develop their argument and structure. I took World Lit with Professor Friedman. P.s., I'm a born and raised Austinite, so I've always got a good restaurant recommendation!

Breanna DeLeon

Breanna is a fourth year Plan II and Government double major with a minor in History. In her time at UT, she has interned at nonprofits in the Austin area, such as the Texas AFL-CIO and the Lone Star Justice Alliance. On campus, she has served as a Plan II Peer Mentor and volunteered in the KIPP/Plan II student mentor program. In her free time, you can find her reading the news or a good book, often with a coffee in hand. This is her second semester as a Plan II writing coach.

Morgan Jeitler

Hi! My name is Morgan Jeitler (she/her), and I'm currently a senior Plan II/English major. At UT, I'm involved in Liberal Arts Council and Apricity Magazine, and I'm currently working on a thesis about stage adaptations of Shakespeare. In my free time, I enjoy writing fiction, practicing German with friends, and playing board games. I'm looking forward to meeting and working with you all!

Teresa Medellin

Hi! My name is Teresa Medellin, and I am a senior in the Plan II Honors Program majoring in biochemistry and minoring in philosophy. I was a Plan II Writing Coach last year, and I am excited to continue working in the program this year! Writing papers for Plan II classes can be daunting, especially if you are not comfortable with the writing process. I am committed to collaborating with Plan II students to improve written work and find effective writing strategies. Don’t worry though, we will be able to talk about more than grammar and essay structure – I also enjoy talking about community activism, cool spots in Austin, and upcycling clothes!

Isabel Webb Carey

Hey y'all! My name is Isabel Webb Carey (she/her) and I'm a second year purely Plan II student pursuing certificates in Spanish and the Bridging Disciplines Program: Patients, Practitioners, and Cultures of Care. My interests are broad, spanning social work, psychology, history, and urban design, but I am particularly interested in equity and care in urban contexts. After growing up in London, England, I moved to Austin for my Freshman year of college in 2020 and have since grown to love the city and all it has to offer. Outside of class, I am a Managing Editor for the TX Orator, a research assistant in two psychology labs, a part-time journalist, and peer support specialist. I have a love of dance and saying "yes" to new experiences, so catch me at poetry slams, group hikes, and art workshops! Finally, I love meeting new people and am excited to help out as a Plan II Writing Coach this semester!

Grace Zhou

Hey y’all! My name is Grace, a current junior majoring in Plan II and Biochemistry. I’m a pre-med and hope to attend med school after my undergrad in pursuit of becoming a physician in the future. I’m a born and raised native Austinite! My favorite place in town is probably Bull Creek, where I love to go with my family to take our Pekingese pup hiking. During my free time, I enjoy cooking and baking (major foodie!), traveling (pre-COVID), playing piano, and singing. I’m super excited to be back again this year as a writing coach, and I can’t wait to meet new fellow Plan II students through it!
