Plan II Honors Commencement Speaker:

Aurora Lora, Plan II Honors and Pyschology, May 2000.   Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award 2009

Aurora Lora came to UT Austin as valedictorian of an El Paso high school.  She was awarded a Dedman Scholarship and graduated, with majors in Plan II and Honors Psychology as one of the Dean's Distinguished Graduates in the College of Liberal Arts.  She received her Master of Education from St. Thomas University in Houston.

She spent four years through the Teach for America program as a fourth-grade teacher at Ryan Elementary School in the Houston Independent School District. While at Ryan Elementary, she helped her students make significant academic gains and wrote a $40,000 grant to start an after-school program for fourth and fifth graders. She was named “Teacher of the Year” and became the subject of a 100-page book written by Teach for America that is now used as a training tool.

She then completed her doctoral coursework and superintendent internship through the Urban Superintendent’s Program at Harvard University.  Dr. Lora is the founder and administrator of the Harriet Tubman Leadership Academy for Young Women, a public all-girls middle and high school in Portland that opened in September 2007.

Ticket information for Plan II Honors Convocation:

Graduating Plan II Honors graduating seniors do NOT need a ticket for the Plan II Honors Graduation Convocation.

All other guests must have a ticket to enter the Hogg Memorial Auditorium. Disregard ''balcony'' or ''orchestra'' designation on tickets: THERE IS NO RESERVED GUEST SEATING. Seating is ''first-come, first-seated.''

Beginning on MONDAY, APRIL 23, each graduating senior may pick up SIX (6) tickets for family and guests, from MONDAY, APRIL 23 THROUGH FRIDAY, MAY 4, at the Plan II Honors Program office front desk.

Each senior will be asked to sign for the number of tickets he/she picks up.

Tickets will NOT be reserved for seniors who do not pick up tickets on or before the May 4, 2012 deadline.
Because we will not have more tickets than available seats, we hope seniors will NOT pick up more tickets than they expect to use. Please do NO pick up six tickets if you know you will only have 3, 4 or 5 guests!
On Monday, MAY 7 through  May 11, all remaining Plan II Honors Graduation Convocation tickets will be released on a ''first-come, first-served'' basis to those seniors who expect more than 6 guests.  If you show up and tickets are available, you can get them.  If you show up late and they are gone....that’s that.

  • Disregard “balcony'' or “orchestra'' designation on tickets.
  • Seating is ''first-come, first-seated.''
  • One guest may not come early and “hold” seats for the rest of the party.
  • The doors to Hogg Auditorium will not open until 8:30 a.m.

NOTA BENE: Graduating seniors who walk in the evening University-wide ceremony on Saturday night DO need a ticket.

SENIORS MUST ARRIVE at FAC 21 at 8:00 am (EIGHT O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!) on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

FAC 21 is the auditorium at ground level on the Texas Union side of the Flawn Academic Center. You may enter through the glass doors off the Union patio (across from Wendy's) or from the 1st floor lobby of the FAC (at entrance to Undergraduate Library) go down the stairs at the east end (Union-side end) of the lobby.

Give your family/guests their tickets BEFORE SATURDAY!  You will not be with them for at least one hour prior to the ceremony.

Do not bring any items that will not fit in your pockets or a small purse that can tuck under your gown. There is NO place to leave items during the ceremony-- the room will not be "manned" or locked and you will NOT return to this room after commencement.

Do not bring items for your guests/family members: you will not see each other before the ceremony.

Parking & Guest Drop-Off:

The most convenient parking for the Plan II Graduation Convocation should be readily available in UT Parking Garage #2 on San Antonio Street (one block west of Guadalupe Street) between 24th Street and 25th Street.  On May 19  no permits are required and no charges will be incurred at University garages.

Guest drop-off for seniors and those with disabilites is possible at the front door of Hogg Memorial Auditorium. There is very limited disabled parking at Hogg Auditorium on Saturday, May 22. If driving east on 24th Street, turn right at Inner Campus Drive and right again at the Yield Sign at the turtle pond. This will take you to the front of the Hogg Memorial Auditorium where you may drop-off guests before parking at another spot. You must mention ''Plan II Honors commencement at Hogg Auditorium'' to the guard to be allowed entrance to the inner campus area.

To assure each graduate a seat at the evening university-wide Commencement on the Main Mall, you MUST present a Procession Ticket in order to line up and participate in the Grand Procession.
