PRC IDC Policy

Each September, the University returns to each College 25% of all indirect costs (IDC) generated by the PIs in their College. The College of Liberal Arts (COLA) returns 18% of their IDC return to the unit (including the PRC) administering each PI’s grant. Although the PRC is located in COLA, the PRC is an interdisciplinary research unit that works with PIs across Colleges.

The PRC policy is that each College outside of COLA return half of their total IDC share to the PRC, for any grant administered by the PRC. PRC Affiliates are not required to run their grants through the PRC in order to retain Affiliate status. However, PIs who have received seed funds from the PRC to support a new research project are required to run any funded projects through the PRC that result from those seed funds.

The IDC that the PRC receives is used as follows:

  • Support administrative services for the preparation and submission of grant proposals and post-award management of sponsored projects
  • Provide seed fund awards to PRC Affiliates for the development of research projects and grant submissions
  • Computing and technical support for PRC Affiliates
  • Support training and mentoring of junior faculty in grant writing and research development
