Training

Mandatory training has increased awareness, investigation and remediation of issues regarding sexual misconduct.  A similar aggressive training and reporting culture should be implemented to address racism.

The Department of Psychology will work towards the following goals for Fall 2020:

  1. All faculty and students will be required to complete training that provides education on the history of racism at UT and in higher education and provides strategies for creating environments that are safe and inclusive.

  2. Course instructors will undergo specific training to address how to create classroom environments that are safe and inclusive and that addresses cultural diversity.

  3. A program to facilitate integration of the topic of racism in courses will be developed to provide individual consultation on how course content can be used to facilitate the development of an anti-racism culture. We will also explore expanding the undergraduate curriculum offerings to include courses that address racism and multicultural perspectives.

  4. Anti-racism statements will be included in all syllabi and announced at the beginning of every course.

  5. Faculty will participate in training to increase awareness of strategies for better supporting minority graduate and undergraduate trainees.
