New research by Alison Preston published in the Journal of Neuroscience

Fri, November 5, 2010

Assistant psychology professor Alison Preston and postdoctoral fellow Dagmar Zeithamova have published a paper in the Journal of Neuroscience. Their findings suggest that recalling past experience during new learning influences the way in which we form memories for new events. They provide important evidence that our memories for different events can be combined in new ways to enable flexible judgments about relationship between events that were not directly experienced. The paper, "Flexible Memories: Differential Roles for Medial Temporal Lobe and Prefrontal Cortex in Cross-Episode Binding", describes the neural mechanisms that enable the flexible formation of such memories.
