Join the Institute for Urban Policy Research & Analysis for this semester's first installment of the Black Policy & Tea event series, De-Escalation Training for Law Enforcement. A discussion on the information below will be led by Dr. Kevin Cokley and tea and cookies will be available for attendees. Black Policy & Tea events will be held monthly throughout the semester, focusing on varying topics.

Discussion topics:

Through his affiliation with the 100 Black Men of Austin organization, Dr. Kevin Cokley was asked by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office to be involved in the creation of training tactics regarding de-escalation for police officers. After months of preparation and communication, Cokley conducted the new de-escalation training for the Sheriff’s Office in August 2017.
