Questionable Content: The Banned Books of Ana Castillo and Carmen Tafolla

LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections presents the 16th annual ¡A Viva Voz! Celebration of Latina/o Arts and Culture. 

This year, authors Ana Castillo and Carmen Tafolla read from texts of theirs that were banned in the state of Arizona, followed by a conversation moderated by Professor Angela Valenzuela, Department of Educational Leadership and Policy.

The authors are award-winning writers and scholars whose works span a range of genres. Castillo will read from So Far from God (1993) and Loverboys (1996). Tafolla will read from Curandera (1983). Carmen Tafolla has been the Texas poet laureate and the San Antonio poet laureate.

This event is free and open to the public.

This event will likely of interest to Mexican-American studies, American Studies, Education, Latino Studies, literature, cultural studies, Women's and Gender Studies, among others. 

A reception will follow the reading and conversation. During the event, copies of the banned texts will be given away via raffle.
