AUSTIN, Texas—History alumnus (BA, '36) and actor Eli Wallach died Tuesday in New York City at age 98.

While a student at The University of Texas at Austin, Wallach learned how to ride a horse, a skill he used in his Hollywood roles as a villainous outlaw or bandit—most notably in "The Magnificent Seven" (1960) and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" (1966). He was named a Distinguished Alumnus at The University of Texas in 1988.
