Dr. Andrew Chesnut is Professor of Religious Studies and Bishop Walter F. Sullivan Chair in Catholic Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. A Latin American specialist, Professor Chesnut is the leading authority on Mexican folk saint, Santa Muerte, the fastest growing new religious movement in the Americas. 

The second edition of his groundbreaking study, Devoted to Death, was just released by Oxford University Press. Five years after its original publication it remains the sole monograph in English on the Mexican saint of death. Professor Chesnut serves as a media commentator on religion in the Americas and is a featured blogger at HuffPost.
