Professor Patrick Olivelle receives Career Research Award

Patrick Olivelle, Professor of Asian Studies and Religious Studies, was named the recipient of the 2011
University Co-op Career Research Excellence Award on October 18th at a
ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin.  One of the highest
honors bestowed by UT Austin on faculty
members, the award acknowledges Professor Olivelle's many
contributions to the intellectual life of the University and to the wider academic community.  One of the leading historians of ancient Indian religions, Professor Olivelle has a prolific publication record spanning a nearly forty-year career (twenty at the University).  His critical translations of key Sanskrit texts such as Manu's Code of Law (2005) and The Early Upaniṣads (1998) are considered definitive editions.  As a testament to his far-reaching influence in the field, a collection of essays from other scholars, Religion and Identity in South Asia and Beyond (2011), was recently published in his honor.
