RS Scholars Attend Nag Hammadi Conference
Dr. Geoffrey Smith and PhD Student Ross Ponder discuss the Gospel of Philip

Dr. Geoffrey Smith and two graduate students, Brad King and Ross Ponder, recently attended the annual meeting of the Nag Hammadi and Gnosticism Network at Harvard University. Together with graduate students and scholars from North America and Europe, they read the non-canonical Gospel of Philip in Coptic and listened to papers on topics related to Nag Hammadi and Early Christianity.

Brad King also gave a paper entitled "The Garden a Prison: Sex, Gender, and Power in Eden," in which he explored the story in Genesis of Adam and Eve's expulsion from the garden as it is retold in the Secret Revelation of John, another non-canonical early Christian text. They had a wonderful time and look forward to attending again next year.
