Student Spotlight: Nishita Pondugula

Our next student featured in the Student Spotlight series is Nishita Pondugula, who received the Sylvia Miller Scholarship.

Nishita is a current senior at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Religious Studies and Neuroscience. During her time here, she has been involved in various organizations, most notably the Indian Students Association and the Religious Studies Student Association. She is currently pursuing a senior honors thesis in religious studies examining the role of religion on shaping federal policies that create conscience protections for healthcare providers. Conscience protections allow providers to opt out of providing services or procedures on the basis of moral or religious grounds.

Nishita will be attending medical school in Fall 2020 and hopes to use her social sciences background to contribute to interdisciplinary scholarship in medicine. The Sylvia Miller Scholarship will help Nishita pursue four years of further study after graduating from UT.

Congratulations Nishita!
