How to Apply for the Norval Glenn Prize

The Norval Glenn Prize was founded in February 2011 in honor of Professor Emeritus Norval Glenn, a longtime professor of Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin. Following Dr. Glenn's passing, a fund was established to honor Dr. Glenn's many contributions to the Department and to the discipline, and to encourage the research of graduate students. The Norval Glenn Prize will be awarded to the UT Austin Sociology graduate student with the best paper in the area of family sociology. Awards will be made annually while funds are available.

Submission Deadline: March 29, 2021

Schedule: The award will be presented in late April.

Eligibility: Entrants must be currently enrolled Sociology graduate students at UT Austin.

Submission Requirements: Submissions must be on a topic related to family sociology. All methodological approaches will be considered. Submissions may be in the form of unpublished papers. The jury will also consider submissions of papers published in the previous year. The paper may be co-authored by a faculty member if the student is the primary author. To submit, email a pdf of the paper to Bryan Cook.

Award: $500, plus permanent notation on a Department plaque.

Jury: The jury will consist of faculty members and will be announced prior to the deadline.
