Joe Feagin: "Backstage Racism: No Post-Racial America for College Youth"

In his talk Professor Joe Feagin, Ella McFadden professor at Texas A&M University, will examine the important role of backstage racism and racist framing in the lives of white college students today, especially as they are revealed in hundreds of student diaries gathered in research studies by him and his colleagues.
Professor Joe Feagin is widely regarded as one of the leading North American sociologists of racism, a prolific writer and an engaging public speaker.  He is a former President of the American Sociological Association and author of numerous books including, most recently, Systemic Racism: A Theory of Oppression (2006, Routledge), Liberation Sociology (2008, 2nd ed., with Hernan Vera, Paradigm Publishers),   The White Racial Frame: Centuries of Racial Framing and Counter-Framing (2009, Routledge), Racist America: Roots, Current Realities and Future Reparations (2010, 2nd ed., Routledge), and Yes We Can?: White Racial Framing and the 2008 Presidential Campaign (2010, Routledge, with Adia Harvey Winfield).
