Graduate Recruitment Event

Welcome, Recruiting Participants:

We are looking forward to meeting you at The University of Texas at Austin! Amongst many other things, our events will include a reception; talks by our faculty on the program and student life at UT Austin; presentations by our Sociology workgroups; a conversation with our graduate student representatives (Sociology Graduate Student Committee/SGSC); and meetings with individual professors.

The department has reserved and will pay for rooms at the AT&T Conference Center here on campus for the first night of your stay. Everyone who stays in the AT&T Center will share a room with another prospective student, so we will not be able to provide accommodations for travel partners. We will also provide up to $300 in travel reimbursements for those who attend (only attendees who have a social security number or ITIN are eligible for the hotel room and travel reimbursement, and only domestic economy airfare and mileage to and from Austin/AUS are reimbursable).

A Payee Information Form (PIF) will be sent to you from dse@docusign.net. Please complete it as soon as possible. After your travel, please upload your travel receipt(s), as well as this completed reimbursement form, within 45 days to us here. If you are driving, please upload your route and mileage from Mapquest. Please RSVP with us by January 31 at 12 pm/noon CT, so that we can make sure we have enough rooms reserved at the AT&T Center.

Here is our tentative schedule:

Day 1:
3 pm: Check in at the AT&T Center
4 - 6 pm: Welcome reception

Day 2:
8 am: Check out at the AT&T Center
8:30 am - 12 pm: Breakfast, introductions to the department and program, presentations and workshops
12 - 1 pm: Lunch
12 - 5 pm: Meetings with faculty, afternoon activities
5:15 pm: Recruitment day concludes

  • Up-to-date itineraries will be sent to participants.
  • Public transportation from and to the airport - For CapMetro bus #20, the nearest stops by the AT&T Center are Lavaca/17 St (northbound/inbound), and Guadalupe/W 21 St (southbound/outbound). You can plan your trip on the CapMetro website or app. A printable bus #20 schedule and map is also available.
