Department of Sociology

Graduate Recruitment Event

March 26-27, 2019

By invitation

Welcome, 2019 Recruiting Participants:

We are looking forward to meeting you on Tuesday, March 26, and Wednesday, March 27, here at The University of Texas at Austin! Amongst many other things, our events will include a reception; talks by our faculty on the program and student life at UT Austin; presentations by our Sociology workgroups; a lunch conversation with our Student Representatives for Underrepresented Groups; and meetings with individual professors. If you arrive between 10 am and 2 pm on March 26 and would like to meet with a current graduate student before we check in to the hotel, please let me know!

The department has reserved and will pay for rooms at the AT&T Conference Center here on campus for the night of March 26. Everyone who stays in the AT&T Center will share a room with another prospective student, so we will not be able to provide accommodations for travel partners. We will also provide up to $300 in travel reimbursements for those who attend (only attendees who have a social security number or ITIN are eligible for the hotel room and reimbursement, and only domestic economy airfare and mileage to and from Austin/AUS are reimbursable).

Please bring all your travel receipts with you to Austin. If you are driving, please print out your route and mileage from Mapquest. A Payee Information Form (PIF) will be sent to you from dse@docusign.net. Please complete it as soon as possible. Please RSVP with us by February 15, so that we can make sure we have enough rooms reserved at the AT&T Center.

Here is our current schedule:

Tuesday, March 26:
3:20 pm: Check in at the AT&T Center
5 - 7 pm: Welcome reception at Scholz's

Wednesday, March 27:
8:30 - 12 pm: Breakfast; Introductions to the department and program; Workgroup presentations
12 - 1 pm: Lunch; Conversation with the Student Representatives for Underrepresented Students
1 - 4 pm: Tour of the Population Research Center; Workgroup presentations; Meetings with faculty and graduate students
