The Anthropocene in the Longue Duree

Tue, April 22, 2014 | CLA 1.302B

In the past few decades there has been a growing awareness of the acute impact of humans on the planet. This has led some scholars to suggest we are entering a new geological epoch, designated the "Anthropocene." While the term may be considered contentious, few can disagree that our species has had a profound and probably irreversible effect on the planet. However, there are still many questions that remain about the nature of this impact, its origins, and the future of the planet in an age when humans alter, dominate or manipulate almost every ecological system on earth. This workshop will explore the long-term development of the Anthropocene in different time frames and geographical settings.
