Historical Romance linguistics, Caribbean Spanish dialectology, language variation and change in the Peninsular Spanish, sociophonetics, the interference of the English language on the Caribbean Spanish-speakers, and L3 acquisition in the Spanish Caribbean.


Piero Visconte holds a BA and MA from Università del Salento, Lecce, Italy. He has served as Italian language instructor at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, and has taught Spanish linguistics, history of the Spanish language and fundamentals of writing in Spanish at Ana G. Méndez University (AGM), Gurabo Campus, Puerto Rico. He also taught Italian and Portuguese within the AGM institutions.

Focus on the development of multilingual literacy through the analysis and use of Spanish to achieve linguistic competence (simple present and past tenses, pronouns, adjectives), communication and interactional competence (complimenting, thanking, requesting, giving opinions), and metalinguistic competence (parts of speech, sociolinguistic cues, dialectal differences).
