2020 Student Cohort

How Can I Help Students?

Now more than ever the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Texas at Austin seeks to align itself with the College of Liberal Arts’ mission of student support. If you’re wondering how you can help our students during this trying time, department leadership, in conjunction with the Graduate Student Organization would like to present the following options.

  1. Prepaid Visa Gift Cards These cards can be purchased from $25-$500 and can be distributed immediately. Cards can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.
  2. Target Gift Cards
  3. Wal-Mart Gift Cards
  4. Randall’s Gift Cards

For all gift card purchases, please list the Department of Spanish and Portuguese (spnpor@austin.utexas.edu) as the recipient. Gift cards will then be distributed to students in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese based on financial need.

We thank you in advance for your contribution to better the quality of life of our graduate student community during these difficult times!

Sincerely,

Jossianna Arroyo-Martínez, Chair
Jorge Pérez, Incoming Chair
Lorraine Leu, Graduate Advisor
Laura Rodríguez, Graduate Coordinator
Wilfredo José Burgos Matos, Graduate Student Organization President

How Can I Receive Aid?

If you are a graduate student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, please fill out the Qualtrics survey here to request funding.

Please note that funds will be distributed based on financial need, and that priority will be given to those students who have not received significant summer awards and are not teaching in this or another department.

If you have any questions, please direct them to our Chair, Jossianna Arroyo (jarroyo@austin.utexas.edu) or Lorraine Leu (lorraine.leu@austin.utexas.edu), our Graduate Advisor.
