Ana Luiza Andrade is a Professor of Contemporary Brazilian Literature at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, in Florianópolis. She is the author of several books and dozens of articles on theories of modernity in the work of major figures in 20th-century Brazilian literature and intellectual history, including Machado de Assis, Gilberto Freyre, Osman Lins, and Clarice Lispector.
