Juan Flores is Professor in the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University.  He is former director of CUNY’s Center for Puerto Rican Studies. Prof. Flores has been a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Council on the Humanities and has consulted for the Smithsonian Institution and the Rockefeller Foundation. His major book publications are Poetry in East German, Memoirs of Bernardo Vega, Divided Arrival, Divided Borders: Essays on Puerto Rican Identity, La Venganza de Cortijo y Otros Ensayos, and From Bomba to Hip Hop: Puerto Rican Culture and Latino Identity. His essay on the Puerto Rican writer Antonio S. Pedreira was awarded the Casa de las Americas prize in 1980.

Miriam Jiménez Román is the Executive Director of afrolatin@ forum, a research and resource center focusing on Black Latin@s in the United States, and a Visiting Scholar in the Africana Studies Program at New York University.
