Amailton Magno Azevedo teaches History at the Universidade Pontíficia São Paulo. He has published various articles and book chapters  on rap, samba and sociability in São Paulo and the Afro-Diasporic connections (Africa, the Caribbean) of Brazilian popular music.
Currently he is a post-doctoral scholar for the CAPES grant (UT-PUC) with a project on "Polifonias no Atlantico Negro." He is also a musician, and his first CD is entitled," Mundo Atlantico" (2007). He has played in São Paulo, University of Havana, Cuba and the city of Austin.
