Service Learning Projects in Salvador Bahia (2012)

A total of 16 UT students, and 4 Kansas students successfully completed the Portuguese Language and Culture program in Salvador, Bahia, held at ACBEU, Vitória. They participated in two Service Learning projects at the Escola Aberta community in Calabar, and at the Instituto Steve Biko. Escola Aberta students worked on the remodeling of the student's library and media space at Escola Aberta. They also played and enjoyed local festivities with Escola Aberta students such as São João.  Biko students had English Portuguese exchanges with Biko students, and learned about the social realities, struggles and strengths of the African Diaspora, and Afro-Diasporic youth. Enjoy!
