This award given by the College of Liberal Arts, offers support for research projects at the trend of the Humanities and Social Sciences. ¨Imperial Trash: The Portuguese in the American Tropics (Brazil, Trinidad and Hawaii)¨ is the first project to challenge the nationalist paradigm that has shaped the scholarship of Portuguese immigration.

The project "Embodied Cognition, Empathy, and Activism in Early Modern Spanish Theatrical Performance.” seeks to understand the cultural dynamics of what we might call an early modern social activism in Europe, as exemplified by theatrical performances that participated in public campaigns of social awareness and political action during times of war and cultural tension in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Spain.
