Undergraduate Advising

Academic Advising is a collaboration between student and advisor.

In this parternership, advisors present students with university resources for:

  • academic inquiry
  • professional and career goal setting
  • social development

Students will have the opportunity to realize academic and personal goals as they share their ambitions and aspirations with their academic advisors.

Advisors allow students to discuss:

They also assist students with petitions for degree modifications and the evaluation of study abroad courses and their degree applicability. Referrals and information on other resources will be provided when appropriate.

Advising Appointments

Advisors are available for appointments M-F from 8:30am to 11:30am and from 1:00pm to 4:30pm.  Students may be able to make a same-day appointment depending on availability.  We recommend that students make advising appointments before peak advising periods or registration occurs. Walk-in advising is available during the second week of the registration period. We caution students that there may be a long wait period at that time.

Students may come to BEN 2.108 or call 512-232-4503 or 512-232-4506 for an appointment.  If you wish to make an appointment via email, please include your name, EID, and availability that week to facilitate efficient scheduling.  We encourage students to make appointments at least one day in advance.  Please do not attempt to schedule appointments via voice mail.

We ask that students come prepared when visiting an advisor.

Advising Audits

One of the best tools that students and advisors can use to discuss progress towards the degree is the advising audit. This is a computer-generated list of all your classes detailing how they apply to your degree plan. Paper copies of your audit are made available to you when you come in for advising.

You may also create and view your audits online using IDA, the Interactive Degree Audit. This option is available at all UT computers that have utACCESS; you may also access IDA via ROSE
