Introduction to Interpreting

Put your language skills to work!

Sat, April 14, 2018 | CAL 516

10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at UT and the Austin Area Translators and Interpreters Association (AATIA) are pleased to present this joint workshop for speakers of English and another language who aspire to work as community and/or medical interpreters. Only UT students and AATIA members are eligible to attend.

The workshop will provide an introduction to the interpreting profession, the code of ethics for medical and community interpreters, the modes of interpreting, and (time permitting) credentialing for interpreters. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice interpreting with partners.

The workshop is open to speakers of English and any other language. However, for the practice portion of the workshop, you will need a partner who speaks the same languages, so please try to ensure that someone else with your language combination registers for the workshop.

Please note that this is not a language-learning workshop. You need to be fluent in both English and your other language in order to attend.

Space is limited - Register today!
