There is often a gap between real-classroom pronunciation practices and research findings about pronunciation teaching and learning. Specifically, research has contributed to identifying various learner success factors, which contribute to pronunciation improvement including: awareness-raising, understanding of explicit instruction, focus on prioritized and focus-on-form targets, adoption of modeled strategy use, reflection and motivation. The integration of these key “building blocks” into an advanced level ESL oral proficiency curriculum will be shared. Participants will be encouraged to consider how classroom practices based on pronunciation awareness methodology and teacher scaffold can facilitate individual students’ pronunciation improvement.
