2017 Professional Development Awards Announced!

The Texas Language Center is pleased to announce its Professional Development Award recipients for 2017! These awards are made to instructors of languages at UT who are seeking to develop new materials, courses, or methods for teaching their languages, or who would like to attend a conference or purchase materials in order to improve their teaching.

This year’s recipients, including graduate students, lecturers, and tenured or tenure-track faculty, are:

  • Yukie Aida, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies—Conference and Presentation with a Foreign Language Researcher.
  • Meghan Ackley, ESL Instructor in the International Office—IATEFL Conference Glasgow
  • Kit Belgum, Associate Professor in the Department of Germanic Studies—German GER 331L
  • Ignacio Cervejal, Department of Spanish and Portuguese—Creating An Indigenous Language Online Course
  • Devon Donohoe-Bergeler, Doctoral Candidate in Foreign Language Education and Assistant Instructor in the Department of Germanic Studies —Graduate Student Instructors' Experiences With Drama-based Pedagogy
  • Itzik Gottesman, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Germanic Studies—Transfer of Yiddish Interviews, Performance, and Lectures from VHS to Digital Format
  • Bernadeta Kaminska, Lecturer in the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies—Second Biennial Workshop for Polish Language Teachers
  • Patricia Kyle, Senior Program Coordinator for Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning—Intercultural Communication Online
  • Sang-Hoon Park, Lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies—Developing Course Materials for Accelerated First-Year Korean
  • Rose Potter, Clinical Assistan Professor at UTeach—Intercultural Communication Online
  • Naoko Suito, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Asian Studies—Animation for Grammar Reference Pages on the JOSHU Study-Help Site
  • Sarah Jey Whitehead, Lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese—Observable Benchmark Objectives in First Year Spanish II: Articulating Concrete Goals Across Sections
