Kate Coleman-MinahanContact: kate.coleman-minahan@ucdenver.edu

Kate Coleman-Minahan is a social scientist and clinician whose work focuses on reproductive health decision-making and access to contraception and abortion services among marginalized populations, specifically adolescents and Latina immigrants. She has expertise in quantitative analyses of survey data and qualitative interviews with marginalized populations. She co-coordinates the study evaluating the impact of HB 3994, which restricted judicial bypass for minor teens seeking abortion care without parental consent.  She is also involved in the study of community college students and the Postpartum Contraception Study, including an assessment of contraceptive counseling and its impact on contraceptive use in the postpartum period.

Kate was a National Institute of Nursing Predoctoral Fellow and conducted a mixed methods dissertation to examine reproductive health outcomes among Mexican-origin young women. Kate also worked with the Colorado School of Public Health on the Ford Foundation funded project, “Social Media for Sexual and Reproductive Rights, Access, and Justice,” exploring reproductive health decision-making among adolescents. Her work has documented the inextricable link between cultural constructions of gender and sexuality and socioeconomic status.

For the past five years, Kate has provided primary care to young mothers and their children at the Young Mother’s Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado. She strives to be an empowering influence in the lives of young women. In addition to researching reproductive health from a population level, her patients provide personal experiences with reproductive health decision-making and their daily struggles with poverty and discrimination.
